김소옥 So Ock KIM

1982년 서울에서 출생한 김소옥은 3세 때 영국으로 건너간 후 15세에 최연소로 Shell/LSO 경연에서 금메달을 수상, 또한 19세에는 Young Concert Artists Trust로 선택된바 있다. 이즈하크 라쉬코프스키와 펠릭스 안드리에프스키, 그리고 1994년부터 데이비드 타케노를 사사한 그녀는 영국을 포함한 세계의 무대에서 대단한 성공을 거두고 있으며 그녀의 재능은 독주뿐 아니라 실내악에서도 두드러지고 있다.

위그모어홀, 로얄 페스티벌 홀, 퀸 엘리자베스 홀 등의 영국의 주요 콘서트 홀뿐 아니라 미국, 아시아, 유럽, 남미까지 세계의 주요 연주 홀 및 펜데레츠키 음악제, 몽펠레 음악제, 폴란드 베토벤 이스터 페스티벌, 슐레스비히 홀스타인, 라비니아, 알데부르그 페스티벌, 파블로 카잘스 페스티벌, 프랑스 방송 페스티벌 등지에서 초청 연주회를 가졌다. 필하모니아 오케스트라, 로열필하모니 오케스트라, 프랑스 방송 필하모닉 오케스트라, 몽펠리에 국립 오케스트라, BBC 필하모닉 오케스트라 폴란드 국립방송 교향악단과 협연한 그녀는 펜데레츠키와의 호흡을 맞췄고 블라디미르 아쉬케나지와 세계 연주 투어를 마친바 있다. 또한 김소옥의 연주는 BBC, ABC, 라디오 프랑스, RAI, 폴란드 라디오, KBS 등에서 TV와 라디오로 방송되었다.

한편, 김소옥은 새로운 작품을 연주를 즐겨 다수의 작품을 세계초연하고 있으며 유니버셜과 낙소스에서 녹음 작업을 하고 있다. 그밖에 실내악 연주자 및 섬머셋의 Millfield School 현악 고문으로 활동하고 있다.

2012년부터 영국 왕립음악원 교수로 재직 중이다.

Born in Seoul in 1982, So-Ock Kim moved to London at the age of three. At 15, she was the youngest ever winner of the gold medal in the prestigious Shell/LSO Competition playing the Tchaikovsky concerto with the London Symphony Orchestra in the Barbican Hall. At 19, So-Ock was selected for the Young Concert Artists Trust.

So-Ock has given numerous critically acclaimed performances around the world and at the Wigmore Hall, Royal Festival Hall and Barbican Hall in London. Abroad she has comprehensively toured throughout Asia, Europe and the US, performing concertos and recitals in the various international music festivals, such as Schleswig Holstein, Beethoven Festival, Ravinia, Mecklenburg, BBCProms, Radio France Festival, Herrenchimsee, Seoul Spring, Casals and Aldeburgh. Many of her performances have been broadcast on radio and television worldwide, including the BBC, ABC, Radio France, RAI, KBS, Polish Radio and Classic FM.

So-Ock has made numerous acclaimed international performances with the Philharmonia Orchestra, Royal Philharmonic, Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France, Sofia Philharmonic, Orchestre Nationale de Montpellier, KBS Symphony, Torino Philharmonic, Seoul Philharmonic, Mexico State, and Belgrade Philharmonic Orchestras. She has performed with Krzystof Penderecki and the Polish Radio Orchestra, Vladimir Ashkenazy and the Philharmonia Orchestra, the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra with Vassily Petrenko, BBC Philharmonic Orchestra, Opera North, City of London Sinfonia, London Mozart Players, Suwon Philharmonic, Korean Chamber Orchestra, Westdeutsche Sinfonia and the English Chamber Orchestra.

So-Ock has a keen interest in the performance of new works and has given several World Premieres that have been recorded for Universal (France and Korea) and Naxos. She is also an active chamber musician and is a string consultant at Millfield School in Somerset. Since September 2012 she became Professor of Violin at the Royal Academy of Music in London.
